Meet Your Pet’s Vet:
Dr. Mark Peterson

Say hello to Dr. Mark Peterson, a longtime Cypress resident who has called this community home for nearly 50 years. Dr. Peterson graduated from Texas A&M and began his veterinary career working almost exclusively with horses before transitioning into small animal care. His passion for animals of all kinds runs deep. At home, he and his wife share a lively menagerie that includes dogs, cats, tortoises, box turtles, lizards, and 17 snakes. His wife enjoys their many pets, but she leaves the snake handling to Dr. Peterson. When he is not caring for the pets in our Cypress community, you can find Dr. Peterson restoring vintage cars or tending to his reptile collection.

Dr. Peterson joined Healthy Smiles because he saw a real need in the community for high quality, stress free pet dental care and he appreciated the opportunity to add value by offering additional services. He is especially excited to serve the many families he has met in Cypress without anyone having to drive across town.

We are thrilled to have him on the team and we know your pets will feel the same!

How it Works: Anesthesia-Free Teeth Cleaning for Dogs & Cats

For many dogs and cats, including puppies & kittens, anesthesia is not required to have their teeth & gums cleaned. Instead we can use calming techniques to help pets feel relaxed during their dental cleaning. But first, a thorough dental exam will be performed by our licensed veterinarian to determine if your pet is a good candidate!

Here’s what to expect from your pet’s anesthesia-free teeth cleaning appointment:

Tell us about your pet

We’ll ask you to complete a medical history form before the appointment. This will help our veterinarian evaluate if your pet is a good candidate for a non-anesthetic pet dental cleaning.

Exam & deep dental cleaning

Your pet’s appointment will start with a thorough dental exam performed by a veterinarian. If there are no behavioral or health concerns found during the exam, we’ll proceed with a thorough cleaning of your pet’s teeth, followed by a polish & rinse for minty fresh breath! All pet dental cleanings are supervised by our licensed veterinarian.
